CHINS

 

Size:  

About 8 to 11 inches at the shoulders  

 

Weight: 

The AKC sets no weight standard for the breed. However, the body should be proportionate and sturdy to the size of the head. In rescue we've seen chins as small as 4 pounds and up to 22 pounds. The average weight of the chins we've seen in our rescue is 10 to 12 pounds.

Black & white 

tan (red) & white

lemon & white

sable & white

tri-color

 

Coat: 

*Single layer 

*Moderate shedding

*Minimal grooming requirements (brushing twice weekly)

 

Personality: 

*Companion dog

*Sensitive and intelligent 

*Bright, alert and playful 

*Affectionate and devoted to its family

*May be reserved around strangers and in     unfamiliar situations. 

 

Exercise Needs: 

Low to moderate; loves short daily walks & romping in the yard

 

Temperament:  

*Cat-like:  uses its paws to wash and wipe its face

*Calm and quiet 

*Rarely barks
